To tickle the ivories (EN)

On January 1st 2011 I closed a seven-year cycle of youth-studies by graduating and becoming an engineer. Luckily, on February 1st I was thrown back to that mash again by taking an offer of free seat at university (among other doctoral students). For I am uncompletely healed worcaholic, I took my time to write this article.

On the other hand, I had hell of a long time to think about ideas which I should mention here. Sadly, it won´t be neither funny story about moving Tracy up the stairs (which did not happen yet), nor paean to her qualities (for keys are dirty, body is dusty and strings untuned). Let that be for near future.
What I can share is a discovery, that there´s no easy path to the paradise of artistry in playing piano. In outline, I think we can get there following those simple steps:

1) learn to play some "groundles" - just for finger´s excercise and player´s fun (even simple music can be beautigul, whithout chords or notes)

2) learn chords - which is probably easiest and most benefical (you will be surprised how useful it is)

3) play music by chords - there is plenty of such songs, as much as carps, roaches or pikes in fishpond of pop-music, as well as in streams of RNB, folk, blues etc. Moreover, there is most of it reachable in meadows of the internet - usually entrails-less (i.e. without interpreter´s melodic decorations), but also bones-less (i.e. without tricky transitions or aritmies, which could follow us to the very death in process of growing up to perfection). I don´t recommend to fish out much often, it can easily happen, that you´ll find your carp already dead in a bath.

4) learn notes - is, by my opinion, a shifty base, from which we will be outed several times for few seasons - it will be difficult to monitor both field and ball (both left and right hand) and if so, it will be much hurder to make legs (fingers respectively) move fast and proper enough in order to carry player in the home-base. Here the difference between reality and metaphor blurs, because it is extremely important to wear a helmet every time we fight the notes. My very own (highschool) experience is not far from the imagination of myself violently shuting the coffin of fingerboard with head inside, after unsuccesful attempt to play some notes.

5) play sofisticated compositions - is my dreamed up goal (I think that a horizon of five years for first two is quite fair. What do YOU think?). I also believe, that this isn´t mandatory goal for everyone among piano players, but you know - it´s always good to set a high level to reach, in other words "smaller the pantaloons, easier the weight-loose":-)

6) hook up one (or more) passionate muse, who can give us such talent that nobody else has and abilities that no one from thousands amateurs all around the world has. Some of us are lucky already (so am I), because we have our home-fay - friend, lover, sibling, a pet probably...:-) There´s always someone who will not even appreciate your endeavor, but also push you little bit more far on your musical tour, just the way he/she listens to your preludes.

Somewhere between those six, you can also put steps like "convalesce nervs", "practice hard", "watch for tricks" or "compose your own pieces".
Well, put on jerseys, mix your energy drinks, refresh memory and overlook both hands - do you all have (as I do) ten fingers, from which a good half is odd? Then we are here, on a starting line of endurance race, where relishing surroundings or taking side-tours is not even allowed, but needed as well!

So let´s tickle the ivories!

Have fun and for an inspiration, I attach my own "groundle" number one - Daffodils. You can see Tracy for a first time (and my hands as well) and you can start practice easy one - fingers walk from one black key to another (it´s much easier to hit black one than the white one), "step by step and than back" - no big deal. I will appreciate all comments, experiences with this little composition, but I look forward particularly to watch your own version, liven up by your own schticks.

Next time, I will provide complete score.
Well, come on pioneers, we have to saddle up eighty-eight wild stallions, mares and foals, which must both scutter and stamp among those seven octaves just like our whipping will make them to!
